Overview of Assigned Substance Paper

One substance that is commonly abused will be assigned to each student. The students will write an 8-to 10-page paper describing the substance and providing a history of its use and abuse. The paper will address the individual effects of the substance as well as the social implications of the widespread misuse of the substance. The common modes of treatment will also be discussed in the paper. Use the attached rubric to complete this assignment.

1. Your paper should be approximately 8 to 10 pages in length, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins and in APA format (7th edition) for headings, style for referencing (in both the bibliography and body of the paper) and use of non-sexist language.

2. 10 percent of the total 200 points may be deducted from the overall grade of the assignment for each day it is late.

3. The paper will be graded with regard to structure, content, integration of theory, organization, and grammar. Please follow the suggested outline below.

4. Please write your paper with the reader (your professor) in mind. Make sure the reader can follow your ideas even if they have no knowledge at all about the theories/models you discuss.

5. This paper must be your original work. Plagiarism or other dishonest practices will not be tolerated and the paper will receive a score of 0.
