Activity Time: 3 hours
Directions:
In discussions of human development, the focus is often on child development. While the lifespan perspective identifies that no one period of life has more influence on development than another, the stages of adolescence, early adulthood, middle adulthood, and late adulthood all have the opportunity for dramatic changes to the individual.
Initial Post
Based on your knowledge, experiences, and observations of the growth and development during adolescence, early adulthood, middle adulthood, and late adulthood, which stage brings the most change? Explain why you believe this stage of development involves the greatest amount of changes and include examples.
Reply Post
Reply to a student with a different opinion. Identify an example they used to support their opinion that you had not considered. Does their post change your mind? Why or why not?

Adolescence, in my opinion, is the developmental stage linked to the most change, and several factors may influence this association. The beginning of puberty, a time when significant physical changes occur, is what first defines adolescence. They are also looking into their identities and trying to figure out who they are and where they fit in the world. Teenagers often experience great turmoil and upheaval during this time as they try to figure out who they are and also where they fit in the world. Additionally, adolescents are starting to feel more autonomous and make more independent decisions, which can have a significant impact.
Physical, social, and psychological are the three main classifications that can be used to group changes during adolescence.
The period of puberty is when a person’s sexual organs develop, and secondary sex traits appear. Puberty is the leading cause of physical changes during adolescence. In boys, this includes the development of the testicles and penis, whereas, in girls, this includes the growth of the ovaries and uterus. Along with changes in their skin, hair, and voices, boys and girls experience growth spurts during adolescence.
Growing independence plays a significant role in the social changes during adolescence. Teenagers are increasingly acting independently when making decisions and finishing tasks. As they mold their paths in life, they become less reliant on their parents and other adults for guidance and support.
