I need to find a scholarly article though my school’s online library.
It’s for my art history class
Historiography Assignment Guidelines
Length: 3 pages of text (not including images, Works Cited page, or notes)
Submission format: pdf
Preparation: Read Cultural Intersections: Native Art and the White Imperial Gaze. Just as we read and compared two author’s views of Native Art, you will be comparing two author’s views on a chosen artwork. Think of this as a compare and contrast paper, but you’re comparing the interpretations of the artworks.
Topic: Choose one art work or a small group of similar works to research (remember it must be within the time period and cultures covered in this class). Based on at least two written sources, discuss two different approaches to your chosen artwork and its resulting interpretations. Be sure to address the point of view of the author to reveal any bias which may impact their conclusions.
Research: Decide on an artist/artwork. Use this site as a start: https://americanart.si.edu/art/artists?page=4 (Links to an external site.). Find at least two written sources for your information. These sources may include books, journal articles, or reputable websites (those ending with .edu or .org usually have more reliable information). However, one of your sources must be a scholarly article (I recommend using J-STOR, accessible through the library’s website). This is not a biography assignment so do not choose an article that only discusses the artist’s life opposed to his/her artwork. Add citations as you go so you don’t confuse your sources.
Purpose: 1. To learn to use library resources and perform scholarly research. 2. To think critically about the way art history is written. 3. To write concisely and coherently.
Format: MLA as always. Review guidelines in the resources module.
Documentation: MLA parenthetical citations AND a Works Cited Page.
Any paper that is turned in without proper documentation will be given a failing grade.
