Term Project Description:
Each student will write and present a term project and participate in a group presentation derived from some aspect(s) of the same ‘case study’. The individual project requires each student to use the notions from one or several sections of the course to analyze and explain elements of the ‘case’. The group project is a creative presentation involving a larger section of the course material and linking it to the case. For such a comprehensive analysis to be feasible it is necessary to have a set of events, situations, individuals, groups and organizations with significant information and insight available. The ‘case’ that will serve this purpose this semester is “Apollo 13” (ã1995 Universal). Each student is required to watch the film, DVD or video. As additional research you may consult other sources (web sites, etc.). A DVD of the movie is on reserve at the library. You may also wish to research other material available about the Apollo 13 mission. |
Individual Presentation Each student is to submit a narrated powerpoint presentation in which he/she shows how a topic from the course is illustrated in the movie. The topic is the same as for the written project. The presentation is to be about 5 – 8 minutes in length and is to include a PowerPoint presentation. It is assumed that the audience of the presentation is familiar with the movie and the topic area, therefore the
presentation should concentrate on explanation of how the topic was illustrated and an analysis of the dynamics involved
Individual Written Project Each student is to write a paper in which he/she shows how a topic from the course is illustrated in the movie. These topics will be chosen/assigned during the first week of the semester. The paper is to be 750 – 1000 words in length, and the format is posted on blackboard. It is assumed that the reader of the paper is familiar with the movie and the topic area, therefore the paper should concentrate on explanation of how the topic was illustrated and an analysis of the dynamics involved. The presentation and paper are due August 17.
