For each section of this project (A, B, C), you must prepare a minimum of 2 pages, double spaced, 12 point font, with one inch margins all around. Use essay format (eg., not Q & A responses, bulleted items nor titled subheadings). Cite pages within each essay and reference all sources in APA format. You may exceed the stated length in order to complete the assigned task. Your textbook should be a primary source of reference. Incorporate all concepts and topics from any of the textbook chapters covered in this course that relate. Edit for grammatical and spelling errors. Contact me if you prefer in lieu of an essay, submitting a prerecorded video presentation for any section of the project.
When loading your written response, enter your response directly into the ‘write submission’ tab – best to copy/paste essay from a Word document into the ‘write submission’ space provided. Do not attach the essays as a document or link. You must allow your submission to be reviewed through the SafeAssign plagiarism program on Blackboard resulting in an originality report which will be made available to you. You may submit each essay as many times as you would like in order for you to edit, revise and improve upon your originality report rating before the deadline. An acceptable SafeAssign rate should be 10% or less to avoid penalties, a higher rating may not be graded. Papers will be graded using the rubric provided below. Each section of the project (A, B, C) is worth 20 points, totaling 60 points for the project. Follow all assignment instructions. Keep track of deadlines. This project will explore the past, present and future of policing in the U.S. The elements of this project are divided into three parts, listed as A, B and C below. You must read and draw information primarily from your textbook including chapters 5, 6 and 7 in your textbook, although news articles, journals or YouTube may also be used to supplement the textbook when responding to the questions and statements below. Be sure to expand upon your reasoning, and provide examples in your explanations to illustrate your points in each section, and state in your own words to avoid quoting which does not demonstrate your understanding of concepts.

Re-read chapter 1 in the textbook where it mentions challenges in the criminal justice system (CJS) and explain why the author states CJS must adapt in the future, and how that be accomplished. Discuss at least one solution you believe can help address any of these challenges?
Reflect on Parts A and B of this project as you think about recent events across the U.S. involving law enforcement and their interactions with the public resulting in the publics’ demand for justice and equality, and to defund the police. Research and explain the idea of defunding the police. Provide examples how communities have put the idea of defunding the police into effect. Offer your opinion as to why these examples may or may not have long term success.
