Essay 3

Essay 3 is a Research Essay which requires you to utilize the MCCC Library Online Databases.  This essay is longer and more in depth than your other two essays this semester, and you will be required to submit several prewriting assignments.  These assignments are aimed at helping you navigate researching and writing a longer essay.  The goal is to give you strategies that you can use to write research essays for other courses.PLEASE SEE BLACKBOARD AND THE COURSE CALENDAR FOR THE PREWRITING ASSIGNMENTS FOR THIS ESSAY

The Prompt

Homegoingcovers a large span of history and contains several themes. To narrow your scope, your essay will explore different time periods and historical events that take place in the book in connection with a specific theme. You will need to reference at least three different characters to support the theme you choose.

Choose 1 additional theme to explore in your essays.

Required theme: History is Storytelling

Additional Themes:

• Love and Hate
• Culture and Identity
• Innocence and Experience
• Conformity and Rebellion

The Logistics

• Page length: 8-10 pages (not including the works cited page), Double-Spaced
• Use and Cite 6 sources total, including:
  • Homegoing, by Yaa Gyasi.
  • At least 5 researched sources
    • 4 MUST be scholarly or substantive news sources (articles from MCCC databases, e-books from MCCC, books found through the library, reputable news websites like NYTimes.com or any .edu or .gov websites).
    • One source can be anything you choose, but should still be reliable and trustworthy. For the non-scholarly source, you are free to use things other than printed texts—for example, you may use film, podcasts, or newscasts. These sources must be used extensively in the paper to report the information you researched as well as to support your argument.
  • Format: MLA format (see The Curious Researcher and Purdue Owl online for assistance with MLA). Double-spaced, 1inch margins, 12 pt., Times New Roman font, Works Cited page.
  • Cite all sources parenthetically as well, including summaries and paraphrases of information.

NOT TURNING IN RESEARCH PAPER BY 5/4/2020 WILL RESULT IN A FAILING GRADE FOR THE SEMESTER
