INTRODUCTION TO COMPARATIVE POLITICS

PLEASE ANSWER ANY 3 OF THE FOLLOWING ESSAY QUESTIONS. BE SURE TO ANSWER THE QUESTION COMPLETELY. (33.3 points each)

1. As a committed Marxist, your goal is to promote revolutions internationally. Your Marxist comrades have asked you to write a position paper explaining to them the origins of revolutions, and what sort of nations they should focus upon as the potential site for the next revolution. What should you and your Marxist comrades do to try to promote more revolutions? (Please Note: For this question you have to answer as if you were a Marxist, even if you aren’t.)

1. Karl Marx has returned from the grave and is quite upset to learn that communist systems around the globe have been collapsing. He has asked you to write a paper explaining what communist systems were like after revolutions, and some of the reasons why they collapsed.

1. The new Government of South Sudan has hired you to advise them what type of economy to put in place— capitalist, planned, or mixed (like in a Social Democracy.) Please write a paper explaining the pros and cons of each system, and then stating what type of system you would recommend for South Sudan, and why.

1. We live in the Era of Globalization or the Post Cold War era. What are some of the major challenges facing political systems today? How do you think political systems will evolve to address these challenges?
