One of the major goals of this course is to encourage students to explore college resources and
culture. To that end, this assignment is designed to get you out and exploring college life
beyond the classroom. This term you will attend TWO campus activities and then report back
by writing two papers documenting your experiences – one paper to document each activity.
Examples of college activities are as follows:
• A SAC or club sponsored activity
• Career Center workshop
• Student Learning Center workshop
• Wellness Center Online Challenge
• Program Information Session
• SLS Tutoring Session
Additional events will be announced in class. If there is an event you’d like to attend that isn’t
on the list, please email/talk to Prof. Sullivan to get it approved.
Wednesday, July 29 – Paper #1 Monday, August 10 – Paper #2
Optional Extra Credit Paper #3 due by final exam period
Students are encouraged to submit papers prior to the above due dates
During the event, or shortly afterwards, take some time to organize your thoughts about what
you’ve observed. When you have completed your observation, write a one-page summary of
Points (325 total) will be awarded in the following manner:
80 – Description: thoroughly describe event
80 – Analysis: why do you believe the college puts on events like this?
120 – Personal Reflection: what did you get out of attending this event?
45 – Student followed grammar, composition, and mechanics rules; approx. 400-500 words
Your paper should be typed, double spaced, 11-point Calibri font or 12-point Times New
Roman font, 1” margins, and include your full name and the days/times this class meets. Use
academic college-level English. You are encouraged to use the SLC to get feedback and
assistance with composition, grammar, and mechanics.
