My Opinion Assignment guidelines
In this Unit we will focus on building a researched based argument. You have already chosen a topic for your research, now you will be able to take a position or develop an argument for your topic.
This argument needs to be research based, which means that you must have other research about your position. you should have at least four articles. Try to find some that support and some that contradict your position.
Your may also use personal experience or other sources of information outside of research to support your position.
This opinion paper will probably be about 2-3 pages long. It will also include a works cited page. It needs to be formatted according to MLA citation rules.
It should introduce the topic and explain why it is important to discuss at this time.
It should also discuss why you are interested in the subject and how it is relevant.
Finally, it must include a thesis statement that explains your specific position on the topic: Disagree and Why; Both Agree and Disagree with specifics; or Agree with additions.
This section needs to focus on the reasons for your position. Try to develop packets of evidence to support specific parts of your positions. For example, you may have a quote, a study and a personal experience that all help to support your opinion.
Each piece of information needs to clearly state where that information came from citing the authors or documents or sources.
Needs to restate the thesis statement
then choose from these options:
Opinion: What do you really think about the topic emotionally?
Prediction: What do you think may or may not happen in the future?
Questions: What could you ask the audience to make them think deeper about the topic?
Recommendation: What do you suggest the audience does?
Summary: review all the major points.
