Competitive Strengths and Weaknesses
Modern management practices value systematic and objective analysis whereas in the past
hunches and beliefs might have sufficed. In analyzing competitive position, it is not enough for a
business to compare a few standard benchmarks. To dig deeper, management would identify its
strengths and weaknesses compared to rivals. It would formulate and attempt to answer relevant
and specific questions that elicit information not easily captured by the standard benchmarks.
Examine the company’s competitive environment. Respond to the following:
• Formulate three to five questions that the company can use to assess its strengths and
weaknesses vis-à-vis its rivals.
Write your initial response in 2–3 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to writing and editing.
By Week 4, Day 2, post your response to the appropriate Discussion Area. Through Week 4, Day
5, review and comment on at least two peers’ responses.
