Paper Project:Research and write a 4-5page essay that comparatively analyzes a particular faultlinein threeof the assigned adaptations of “Snow White,”“Sleeping Beauty,”“Little Red Riding Hood,” or “Beauty and the Beast” texts from the course readings. Use only one of Perrault, Grimm, or Beaumont—you do not have to use them at all.I encourage you to build on your presentation and any faultlines and scholarly research that you addressed as you expand your analysis to the other two texts. Aim to give relatively equal weight to all three texts.

More Details:For this paper I want you to go beyond the class discussions to make an argument about a specific issue/faultline surrounding fairy tales that is addressed in three of the texts we have read or watched for class.  Think of the faultlines you have been noticing. In formulating your argument you will need to define and culturally and historically contextualize your specific topic, define any other key terms, state your thesis clearly, address the relevant message(s) being given by the author/director about the topic and why they are important for the audience to receive, and use quoted evidence from each of your primary fairy tale texts and from relevant critical secondary sources. You should include at least 6 relevant critical secondary sources i.e. books or scholarly journals and databases rather than online sources such as Wikipedia. Use Haase and Zipes to help you find relevant sources. NO blogs, essay help guides, or general online sources allowed.

Annotated Bibliography: 1-2 pages.  It should consist of full MLA Works Cited information for each of the 6 critical and scholarly texts along with 2-3 sentences about the main content/ideas of the text that will help you with your paper.  Annotations should be listed in alphabetical order.See samples on Blackboard in Course Readings.

Topic Approval:  Once you have done some preliminary research and read/watched your primary texts, email me a half-page paragraph detailing your topic, the three primary fairy tale adaptations you are examining (see list below), the main questions or faultlines you are addressing across all three versions (one topic for all three NOT three separate topics), and any preliminary arguments you are researching for your Annotated Bibliography.  Think of this as a little draft for the future Introduction to your Paper.

General Writing Checklist:  Make sure to check the list while you write and look back at the comments on your response papers to address and correct writing and formatting errors when you write your response.  You should not be repeating any of these types of errors in your Final Project.

Avoid Plagiarism:use MLA in-text citation to signal all quotes and paraphrases. i.e. for books and articles (Baldwin 63) or films (Lima). Include a Works Cited at the end of your paper that includes all texts that you cite or paraphrase, including any primary or secondary source that you refer to in your essay.  See the MLA 8 Supplementfor help.
