Instructions for Written Project: Infectious Disease (20 pts)
1. Choose an infectious disease to write about.
• The disease must be caused by some sort of infectious agent but does not need to be
bacterial or be one that affects humans
2. In a series of paragraphs totaling approximately 2 pages, describe:
• The causative agent of your chosen disease including its structure
• The reservoir for the causative agent
• How the disease is transmitted or acquired
• The signs and symptoms of the disease, including if the disease is acute, chronic, and the
outcomes of patients who do not receive adequate medical treatment
• Treatment of the disease
• Prevention of the disease, including any available vaccines or other ways of controlling
its spread
• Frequency of the disease in the population of California, the United States, and
worldwide, including epidemiological data related to any epidemics or pandemics of the
disease
• If the disease is becoming more or less common or if the frequency is unchanging
• Historically interesting or other notable instances of the disease
