Creating a Classroom/Campus Culture for Engaged Learning ReportThe candidate will describe a process or plan to use to develop cultural proficiency in order to create a culture of engaged learning for academic achievement. Using the Essential Elements of Cultural Proficiency as a process guide, candidates will describe how to make their classroom, campus, or work environment more culturally proficient. A suggested outline for this project is;
- Assess Your Culture – Thinking of the guiding principles of cultural proficiency, discuss the cultures present, the dominant culture and how it serves and/or fails to serve the others. How do the cultures define family and what are the cross-cultural dynamics?(InTASC Standard 3)
- Value Diversity – How is the diversity of cultures and within cultures understood and valued?(InTASC Standard 2)
- Manage the Dynamics of Difference – Does your organization recognize micro and macro aggressions? Describe the process for conflict resolution pertaining to managing the dynamics of cultural differences.(InTASC Standard 5)
- Adapt to Diversity – Describe barriers to cultural proficiency that may exist. How can you lead in overcoming barriers?(InTASC Standard 7)
- Institutionalize Cultural Knowledge – Where is your classroom/campus/organization on the continuum? How could you take a leadership role in institutionalizing cultural proficiency in your organization?(InTASC Standards 2, 3 and 5) CAEP Standard A.1.1)
