For this assignment, you will write an academic essay that includes an introductory paragraph with a thesis statement that outlines your argument, at least three body paragraphs (one point per paragraph), and a conclusion paragraph with a restated thesis.
Not all assignment questions require extra research. Please read your chosen question carefully to determine if extra research will be beneficial.
Your answer should be about three to four pages, double-spaced.
Be sure to follow MLA formatting. Include a works cited page and in-text citations.
Make frequent references to the text as well as to other sources you may use. The essay must contain an introduction with a well-crafted thesis statement, a series of organized paragraphs in the body section linked with appropriate transitional devices, and a strong conclusion.
As always, review your text to ensure that it contains no mechanical (spelling, capitalization, grammar, punctuation) errors.
LEVEL 4:
Creates a strong thesis that clearly directs and controls the arguments and serves as a plan for the essay. Organizes the essay in such a way that the best arguments occur just before the conclusion. Writes a conclusion that effectively deals with the arguments presented in body paragraphs. Uses transitional terms consistently to link sentences and essay parts.
Develops arguments skillfully, logically, and thoroughly and presents unique insights that are entirely related to the topic.
Makes frequent and effective use of the text(s) by providing highly relevant quotations that explicitly reinforce arguments. Discusses the quotations in detail, skillfully indicating how they support arguments. Evidence of thoughtful analysis (and additional research where necessary) is evident.
Writes in a skillful, clear, mature style with no grammatical or mechanical errors. Sentences are varied in style and length. Diction is engaging, varied, and sufficiently formal for essay assignments.
In-text citations are correctly presented and a complete, well-formatted Works Cited is included. Formatting completely follows MLA guidelines.
