Counseling Session Analysis
Students should address each of the following. PLEASE use subheadings for each subsection:
a) Counselor’s Actions: Do you believe the counselor’s actions were consistent with the theory behind the approach? How so? Please provide examples from the session.
b) Likes/Dislikes: What did you like/dislike about the counselor’s specific approach or techniques? Please provide examples from the session.
c) Family Improvement: From your observations, what do you think the clients might have gained/learned during that one session as a result of the counselor’s approach? In other words, how do you believe the clients are different as a result of that therapy session?
d) Faith Integration: While the counselor’s actions may not have been explicitly “Christian” (i.e., God was not discussed, no prayer occurred, no Bible was read), were any behaviors/skills of the counselor consistent with the Christian faith and the love of Christ? Was there anything at odds with the Christian faith?
Benefits/Limitations of treatment based on diversity factors
Having witnessed this therapy in action, students should discuss any benefits or limitations of this theoretical orientation based on diversity factors. Consider at least 1-2 diversity factors (race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc.). How could this therapy orientation help or harm those with a diverse family make-up? Please use outside academic sources (textbooks and/or peer-reviewed articles) to substantiate your assertions.
