Teaching Essential Vocabulary

A whole spectrum of words exists that English language learners are unlikely to pick up on the playground – or elsewhere – without assistance.

In this assignment, you will designate a specific group of students you have taught, currently teach, or expect to teach in the future, select vocabulary, and design lesson plans.

• Develop your lessons in a Word document for your response. Use APA format.
• Follow the steps to complete the assignment.

Step 1. Designate a specific group of students you have taught, currently teach, or expect to teach in the future.

Step 2. Next, select the vocabulary that must be taught because it essential, technical, or unlikely to be learned without a teacher.

Step 3. Then create two weeks of lessons appropriate for the context in which you teach. You may use the format used in your school for detailed lesson plans or units if it is complete enough to allow someone else to teach the lessons. Integrate technology into the lesson plans when appropriate.

Step 4. Minimum Lesson Plan Components
Use terminology and formats to fit your situation.

1. Objectives/Standards/Purposes (as required for your setting)
2. Grade level and/or proficiency level description of learners
3. Content materials and resources (references for books, references with URLs or other access information for online programs, apps, materials)
4. Strategies (what the teacher/tutor does and what the student/learner does)
5. Immediate Assessment (observable work products, exit tickets, observation checklists, etc.)
6. Delayed Assessment (review, further applications, or testing for retention of learning)

Step 5. Document materials needed and sources appropriately for lesson plans. Provide complete APA references for books, articles, and online sources, including specific URLs.
