THE NEED TO CREATE

Over the last couple of weeks, you have been introduced to a slew of ideas encapsulated by an incredibly broad spectrum of disciplines and arts.  There is an almost infinite number of themes that one can address in discussing the power of human ingenuity or creativity.  For this assignment, I want you to (a) choose one of the themes listed below, (b) address the role it plays in studying the human spirit, (c) discuss how three works of art [a painting, a book, and one other – sculpture, piece of music, etc , address the topic, and (d) how this theme applies to your own life (which should also explain why you chose it).

Please read carefully the directions posted in the announcement related to this assignment.  The essay is worth 20 points (about 20% of your final grade) and will be evaluated according to these guidelines:

5%:  Format (follow the Writing rules, MLA or APA format, spacing, headings, etc)

5%:  Spelling, grammar, punctuation (please PROOFREAD!).

10%: Content, thesis, argumentation (does it make sense? is it cohesive? do you use appropriate examples?)

The essay should be a minimum of 5 full paragraphs and should contain both an Introductory and Concluding paragraph.  Remember, there is no such thing as a paragraph comprised of fewer than 3 sentences.
