Description
Please read over the document that I have attached and answer the two parts at the end Which would be the PART VI: Function and PART VII Cultural connections. The first part should be half a page and the last one should be a page long.
The sources that you should use are as followed: https://www.pablopicasso.org/old-guitarist.jsp https://www.artic.edu/artworks/28067/the-old-guitarist https://www.khanacademy.org/humanities/art-1010/cubism-early-abstraction/cubism/a/picassos-early-work
Only these three sources are allowed as they were approved by the professor and no other sites.
PART VI: FUNCTION
**Type your answers in complete sentences & in paragraph form. Type INTO this document.
**Identify and cut & paste an image of the artist or (if none is available) of the culture/historical period INTO the MP document.
-This section DOES require research (from approved sources only) AND in text citations.
-Do NOT cut and paste from other sources but paraphrase in your OWN words.
-Direct quotes may be cut & pasted (w/citation) but max 1 (short) direct quote per section.
• State the general function of the artwork (religious devotion, personal expression, historical documentation, political propaganda, civic ritual, etc). • If known, elaborate on the circumstances of the commission, ie: who paid for it (patron), what site the artwork was made for and how it was intended to be used. If the artwork was a community commission (ie: an African mask or sculpture), discuss the role the artwork served in civic ritual. Add specifics and cite the source of information.
• If known, discuss the statement that the artist/patron was making through art. If possible, find a quote by the artist or patron explaining his/her statement. Cite the source of information.
**Here is where you get a chance to discuss WHY the artwork was made (the underlying intent of the artist/patron/culture).
PART VII: CULTURAL CONNECTIONS –
**Type your answers in complete sentences & in paragraph form. 200 words minimum.
**Personal opinion here – NO research required but you DO need to reflect on what you learned in Parts III-VI. A good score here is dependent on a good score on Parts III-VI.
**Do NOT just repeat what you stated in previous sections but add personal reflections. ·
Looking back on your comments from the beginning of the semester (Parts I & II), compare your personal experience of your focus artwork, before versus after the research that you did on its form, content, context and function. · Elaborate on the cultural differences & (most importantly) the underlying similarities that you discovered through research on your focus artist/patron/artwork. Be specific. ·
Reflect on how your discovery of these underlying connections between cultures may have changed (or reinforced?) your present-day perspective of cultures different than your own. Make sure to reference your own personal situation, ie: whether you grew up exposed to many cultures or had a more sheltered environment. ·
Finally, reflect on how your experience of art this semester has been influenced by the current Covid pandemic. In times of adversity, can art help? Please be honest!
