Article Summary and Critique

The purpose of an article review is to communicate the main points of a study and to summarize the key points, discuss the implications of the article for multicultural counsellors, and critique the content, methodology, and writing style used in the study by highlighting both the strengths and the possible weaknesses demonstrated in the article.

The review is not meant to re-iterate the details of the study nor to paraphrase each point; instead, it should summarize and discuss the study. Quotes should be used sparingly or not at all. You may format your written assignment either as a bulleted list, or as a traditional essay paper. The written document should consist of approximately 3 double-spaced pages, or approximately 750 words (± 50 words), excluding the cover page and the reference list. For your article summary and critique assignment, select any one of the following articles:

Hook, J. N., Davis, D. E., Owen, J., Worthington E. L. Jr., &Utsey, S. O. (2013). Cultural humility: Measuring openness to culturally diverse clients. Journal of Counseling Psychology, 60(3), 353-366.

1. Summarize the key points made in one of the articles listed. (20% of the assignment mark)
2. Discuss the implications of the article for multicultural counsellors. (30% of the assignment mark)
3. Critique the content, methodology, and writing style used in this study by highlighting both the strengths and the possible weaknesses demonstrated in the article. (35% of the mark)
   1. For your critique of the study, draw inspiration from Checklist for Critiquing Research Articles
   2. Depending on the article you choose to critique, not all of the points entered on that checklist will apply. You must be selective and prioritize: address only the most salient strengths and limitations.
4. Ensure your work:
   1. contains no grammar or spelling errors;
   2. conforms to APA style (or bulleted lists, tables, or charts were attractively formatted);
   3. is written clearly and concisely; and
